Ecrins

Between Gap, Grenoble, and Briançon, the Ecrins National Park is bordered by the Romanche river to the north, the Guisane and the Durance rivers to the east, and the Drac river to the west.

It is a land of high mountains, whose main chain forms the backbone of the mountains, and follows a complex natural architecture that culminates at 4102 meters in altitude at the Barre des Ecrins. More than 150 summits reach higher than 3000 meters, with the valleys sitting at around 1000 meters in altitude.

The heart of the park is only accessible on foot

700 kilometers of paths are regularly maintained in order to meet the needs of moutain professionals (shepherds, guides, refuge guards, etc.) and to satisfy the public (walkers, hikers, Alpinists, etc.) The high mountain guides can even take you up to the glacier territory and the mountains' highest summits. Mountain guides will also lead you to discover the park through various themed outings.

A program of accompanied outings is available at the park rangers' bureaus (Maisons du Parc), as is useful information for discovering this prestigious landscape.

Observing the animals without disturbing them, contemplating the magnificent sites, or setting out to discover the rich floral life will be all the more enriching if you bring along the right equipment (binoculars, watercolor or sketch pads, etc.)

In nature, we are always on someone else's territory. By following the rules of respect, you will always be invited back to the Ecrins.
